The Vietnamese government has announced in a press release that construction has started on the Dau Tieng 1 and Dau Tieng 2 solar PV power plants, which are part of a 500 MW solar project in the province of Tây Ninh, in south-western Vietnam.
The two facilities will have an installed capacity of 150 MW and 200 MW, respectively, and are scheduled to become operational in 2018 and 2019, the government said. A third 150 MW project, named Dau Tieng 3, is expected to be implemented between 2021-2025, it added.
Aggregate investment in the Dau Tieng 1 and Dau Tieng 2 projects should amount to around 9,100 billion VND (around US$397.6 million). The projects’ developers are Thailand-based energy company, B. Grimm Power Public Company Ltd and Vietnamese construction company, Xuan Cau Co. Ltd, said B.Grimm in a seperate press release.
Construction on another 168 MW PV project in southern Vietnam also began this month. The project is being built by Singapore-based developer, Sunseap thanks to an investment of $150 million.

Several more projects are currently under development or construction in the country, as part of the government's FIT scheme, under which owners of grid-connected PV power plants are awarded a 20-year FIT of 2,086 ($0.091)/kWh, excluding VAT. This rate, however, is subject to changes based on the VND/US$ exchange rate.
The power generated by all grid-connected PV installations will be sold to local power utility Electricity Vietnam (EVN) over a period of 20 years.
