The Roadrunner facility is the company’s first photovoltaic project to be installed outside of California, and its third large-scale solar plant to be brought online.
Photovoltaic module manufacturer, First Solar acted as EPC contractor, and will also undertake operations and maintenance duties. It employed its thin film module technology for the project, which has been mounted on single-axis trackers.
Overall, 200 jobs were created during the plant’s construction, which took nine months to complete.
Spread across 210 acres of privately owned land, near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, the plant’s generated energy will be sold to El Paso Electric under a 20 year power purchase agreement.
"On the heels of our recent commencement of operations at the Avenal Solar Generating Facility in California we now have our first solar facility operating in New Mexico, signaling that our diligent labors last year are starting to bear fruit," commented Tom Doyle, president of NRG Solar and NRG’s West Region.
