From September 24 to 28, 4,000 delegates from 11 countries are expected to attend the conference, held at Messe Frankfurts Congress Center, to discuss the issues facing photovoltaics, technological developments and industry trends.
According to the organizers, 1,600 keynote, plenary, oral and visual presentations will be held over the next 5 days, in addition to 150 presentations taking place across 12 parallel events. Of particular interest today, for many, will be the The Europe-Asia PV Forum, held between 14:30 and 18:00.
Overall, the main conference topics to be addressed are:
- Material Studies, New Concepts and Ultra-High Efficiency
- Wafer-Based Silicon Solar Cells and Materials Technology
- Thin Film Solar Cells
- Components for PV Systems
- PV Systems
- PV a Major Electricity Source
Meanwhile, the tradeshow will kick off tomorrow, September 25 and run until Friday 28. Down from 999 in 2011, just 652 global exhibitors are expected to display their photovoltaic technological developments, new products and production processes this year. A theme for many of the module manufacturers is the development of larger-sized modules.

- Schmid, which will display the prototype of its Multi Busbar Connector and a Multi Busbar Module;
- Mondragon Assembly, which will present its new TS 1200 Plus combined tabber and stringer;
- CSUN, which said it will, alongside its recently introduced QSAR and Bifacial modules, unveil "a further innovative solution with increased efficiency and further reduced costs" on Tuesday;
- Singulus, which will display its new LINEA II Etch/Polish machine, developed for the wet-chemical polishing of rear sides, a new production solution for PERC cells for the market of silicon solar cells, a new vacuum evaporation machine for crystalline solar cells that can replace silver paste, a vacuum sputtering machine for thin-film solar cells, and vacuum evaporation machines, among other developments;
- Hanwha Solar, which will display energy storage products, an advanced rooftop system design and a thin-silicon concept module; and
- Meyer Burger, which will unveil its recently announced 303 W photovoltaic module.
pv magazine and photovoltaik will also be launching their respective 300 GW/a and 200 GW initiatives at the EU PVSEC on Wednesday, September 26, during a CEO breakfast hosted by Solarpraxis AG. The basis for both initiatives resides on the belief that photovoltaics has the ability to provide approximately 35% of the worlds power in a 100% renewable future. The dual goals of 300 GW per annum by 2025 globally, and 200 GW of installed capacity in Germany can help realize this bold vision for the future.
At the CEO event, renowned scientists and experts will discuss these goals for PV globally and in German and will argue why such a vision is not only realistic, but also necessary. The expert panel will include Prof. Eicke R. Weber, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, and Christian Breyer, Director of the Reiner Lemoine Institut.
