5.3 MW PV plant connected to Spain’s grid
16. February 2012 | Applications & Installations, Industry & Suppliers | By: Becky StuartSpanish companies, Valfortec and Solaer have connected a 5.3 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic park to the Spanish grid.
The system, which is located near the town of Mazarrón in Spain’s Murcia region, is installed across almost 36 hectares of land. It has been kitted out with photovoltaic products from Conergy, including 22,000 modules, 50 kilometers of mounting systems and 380 inverters.
Overall, the system is expected to generate over 8.1 gigawatt hours of energy annually, which should be enough to meet the needs of 2,700 households.
In response to the recent subsidy freeze, which the Spanish government placed on its renewable energy industry, Luis Jiménez Gutierrez, MD of Conergy Spain commented, "Obviously, a moratorium is never a cause for joy. But according to its own statements, the government is holding firm to its view that there will be some appropriate support measures to smooth the path of Spain’s photovoltaic sector towards grid parity. We are therefore definitely optimistic and expect the government to implement measures in this area in the near future, which will ensure planning security for the entire industry."
