Set to be located around 70 kilometers north west of Alicante, construction on the photovoltaic park is scheduled to begin next July, and be complete by January 2013. In a statement released, Wirsol says that it will be grid connected in stages.

In terms of equipment suppliers, a spokesperson for the company tells pv magazine that either Suntech or Yingli will provide the photovoltaic modules needed for the project, while Emerson will deliver the inverters. Meanwhile, a feed-in tariff of 11.71 euro cents per kilowatt hour has been secured.

Commenting, André Oechsler, managing director of Wirsol Spain, adds, "The Alicante project has caused quite a sensation in crisis-ridden Spain. The fact that we are working together with BayWa on this scale is a strong signal."

It is expected that around 130,000 people will benefit from the energy generated from the project.
