DEWA continues to expand on its solar ambition, signing a contract with ABB that will see its solar capacity grow. ABB had previously been contracted to carry out grid work to facilitate the integration of 100 MW of PV into Dubais grid, with that project now expanding further to allow for the solar plans to grow to 200 MW.
We are proud to contribute to Dubai and the UAEs energy diversification initiative and bring clean energy to meet growing industrial, commercial and residential demand, said Claudio Facchin, from ABBs Power Systems division. This project reiterates our focus on growing markets and renewables in line with our Next Level strategy.
ABB will design, supply and install the substation extention. The infrastructure giant will supply three bays of 400 kV and eleven bays of 132 kV switchgear, power transformers, automation and controls. The project will be completed in 2016.
DEWA is also committed to achieving the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 to generate 7% of Dubais total power output from renewable energy by 2020 and 15% by 2030, said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA.
ABB notes that the Solar Impulse 2 departed from the United Arab Emirates, indicating the countries commitment to solar. ABB is a partner of the landmark Solar Impulse project.
DEWA is moving towards a third phase of its solar park development, worth 800 MW.
