Aecon and Northland to install 60 MW of PV in Ontario
30. April 2012 | Applications & Installations, Industry & Suppliers | By: Becky StuartAecon Group Inc. subsidiary, Miwel Construction Limited, and Northland Power Inc. have been awarded a contract to install 60 megawatts (MW) worth of photovoltaics in Ontario, Canada.
The project will comprise six 10 MW systems to be located near Smiths Falls and Belleville in Eastern Ontario, and Burk’s Falls near Huntsville. Work is already underway on the systems and should be complete in 2013.
According to a statement released, each system will be built across approximately 85 acres of land, and will consist of over 40,000 photovoltaic modules. "The projects will sell the electricity under Ontario’s renewable energy Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) program, and will use Ontario-made equipment and local Ontario labour," it said.
Overall, Northland has aphotovoltaic pipeline worth 130 MW in Ontario, to be executed between 2012 and 2014. Back in November, when the company announced it had signed a supply module contract with MEMC Singapore Pte. Ltd, a spokesperson said the 130 MW will comprise 13 projects each worth 10 MW.
