Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. has completed solar and wind projects in California and Canada.
The Ontario-based group has connected the 20 MW Bakersfield I Solar installation in Californias Kern County as well as the 23 MW Morse Wind project located near located near the town of Morse in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The projects are operational and selling power.
Bakersfield I Solar is Algonquin's second solar generating facility and is comprised of approximately 85,000 solar panels located on 165 acres of land. The project is expected to generate 53.3 gigawatt hours of energy a year and has a 20 year power purchase agreement with an unidentified large investment grade electric utility.
Algonquin said it intends to expand its solar generation portfolio and is currently pursuing the construction of the 10 MW Bakersfield II Solar generation project immediately adjacent to Bakersfield I Solar, which the company expects to be in operation in the first half of 2016.
Morse Wind, Algonquins eighth wind generating plant, consists of 10 direct drive wind turbine generators over 1,120 acres of land. The company expects the project to generate 104.0 gigawatt hours of energy annually, which is likewise being sold to an unidentified utility under a 20 year PPA.
