Another $12m for SunShot initiative

The U.S. Department of Energy's SunShot Incubator program has announced a further US$12 million of funding to develop solar hardware, and reduce the soft costs associated with installation and permitting.

Hardware projects can apply for up to $500,000 towards developing concepts into early stage prototypes, up to $1 million for taking early stage prototypes to full versions and up to $4 million for the manufacturing and equipment costs needed to fund pilot-scale production of full prototypes.

The program's continuing war on soft costs will entail offering up to $500,000 from the $12 million for taking a concept of technologies to reduce such expenses to the customer trial stage and up to $2 million for full commercialization of such innovations.

Applicants have until April 30 to apply for funding.

Since 2007 the SunShot Incubator has seen the creation of more than 50 startups and new business units which have gone on to attract more than $1.7 billion in follow-up funding and have created more than 750 jobs.
