Belectric installs 1 GW

Germany-based Belectric says it has installed one gigawatt (GW) of photovoltaics worldwide. The "milestone" was achieved following the commissioning of a series of multi-megawatt projects at the start of this week.

Belectric installed a 67.8 MWp photovoltaic park in Alt Daber, Germany at the end of last year.

Just last week, the company was named by IMS Research as the biggest  photovoltaics system integrator in 2011, for the second consecutive time. Last year, Belectric is said to have installed nearly 400 megawatts (MW), while in 2010, it was said to have added 300 MW to the grid. Overall, the company says it has installed over one GW of systems over the past 10 years.

Furthermore, at the end of December, IHS iSuppli named it the global solar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) leader for having installed 62 power plants worth 391 MW in 2011. At the time, a spokesperson told pv magazine that, overall, Belectric had installed 176 MW in Germany, 125 MW in France, 47 MW in Italy, 31 MW in the U.S., eight MW in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and four MW across the rest of the world. They added that key markets are Europe, Asia, the U.S, and the Middle East.

One of its biggest plants to date, Belectric installed a 67.8 MWp park in Alt Daber, Germany at the end of last year (pictured). Back in March, it also announced the formation of a new joint venture with Solar Frontier – PV CIStems – which plans to install roof and ground-mounted plants in Germany.

Commenting on the latest GW news, CEO Bernhard Beck stated, "This is an outstanding event for Belectric and the photovoltaics industry in general. My special thanks go to all the employees who have driven forward the development of the company in all parts of the world in the past 10 years."
