BKW acquires Solare Datensysteme

The Swiss multi-national corporation BKW seeks to strengthen its "Renewables and Efficiency" department with this move.

German Solare Datensysteme is the company behind the Solar-Log monitoring devices, which it started selling to the PV market in 2005. The company has over 230,000 PV installations totaling 9.9 GW in its monitoring portal. Solare Datensysteme's customer base is largely in Germany, making up 70% of the total. European clients make up 90% of the company's profile.

BKW and Solare Datensysteme have both agreed not to disclose the transaction value; the acquisition will be completed in September. All Solare Datensysteme employees will now be a part of the BKW team. "We are delighted to have found a strong partner like BKW, which also shares our values and is close to us geographically," says Frank Schlichting, CEO of Solare Datensysteme. "And this means our key unique selling point of vendor independence will remain unaffected."

Self-consumption optimization

Both companies see the potential in the direct marketing of solar power from Solare's more than 200,000 customers in Europe. BKW and Solare plan to move ahead with the development of innovative solutions for technological improvements as well as for the optimization of self-consumption. The companies seek to develop joint energy management solutions and products that can be marketed both in Europe and globally.

One possibility is the synergy with BKW's shareholding company in Switzerland Ampard. Ampard develops energy management systems, specializing in intelligent PV storage solutions.
