The California Solar Energy Industries Association (CALSEIA) has welcomed California Governor Jerry Browns executive order to set a new 2030 greenhouse gas emission reduction target, claiming that the move puts California "in the drivers seat toward a clean energy future and a strong economy".
Browns executive order will see California quadruple its greenhouse gas reduction from 1990 levels by 2020 40% further by 2030.
Such ambitious goals have been applauded by CALSEIAs executive director, Bernadette Del Chiaro, who said that not only would the transition prove the right thing to do for the states natural resources and public health, but would also benefit Californias economy, creating thousands of new employment opportunities.
"Today," said Del Chiaro, "54,000 people work in the solar industry and more than 2,000 companies are doing business here. We also expect a 20% increase in jobs in this year alone. Already, Californias solar industry employs more people than the states five largest utilities combined."
Del Chiaro added that solars strong showing in the state owes thanks as much to its pro-solar policies as it does to its excellent solar insolation levels, claiming that California has regularly backed the industry at every step of the way, and will continue to do so in the near future.
"The California solar industry stands ready to help the State of California reach this new 2030 goal," concluded Del Chiaro. "We are confident that with the right pro-solar policies in place, including preserving Californias Net Energy Metering (NEM) program, along with continued market and technological innovation, California can meet its 2030 goals and continue to lead the country, and world, toward a clean energy future."
