Canada: Schmid sells 60 MW PV module line to Magnum Pv

The German company says it will deliver the first module line to Brampton, Ontario, this September, while the first modules are expected to be produced in October.

In order to achieve immediate UL certification, Magnum Pv is said to be using Schmid’s "Module Certification Support" provision. As such, the relevant certification modules for the Canadians are already reportedly being produced to Magnum’s specifications on the equivalent module production system at Schmid’s Technology Center in Dunningen, Germany.

In a statement, Schmid explains: "This means that the five-month process required for UL certification can commence long before the system is installed at Magnum’s Brampton site. Once the installation is completed, Andre Nazarian, President and CEO of Magnum Pv, will be able to hold the UL Certificate in his hands and begin module production immediately."

Schmid Systems Inc., based in Oakdale, the U.S. will also provide Magnum with on-site technical support.

The statement continues: "At the heart of the line is a membrane-free stacking laminator (…). The laminator is designed with four levels for a line capacity of 120 MW. This will facilitate an upgrade scheduled for 2012 to a fully automatic module line with double the original capacity."
