The new solar PV capacity installed in Chile in June is around 50 MW-AC which brings the cumulative total to 1.267 GW, according to the latest report by Chilean renewable energy center CIFES.

In the first half of the year, Chile installed around 419 MW-AC of solar PV. With 848 MW installed at the end of last year, the cumulative capacity reached 1.267 GW six months later.

The installed capacity of non-conventional renewable energy projects (ERNC*) was around 2.63 GW-AC at the end of last year and reached 3.12 GW-AC at the end of June in this year.

Solar is the largest single source of renewable energy in Chile currently at around 1.3 GW-AC, followed by wind at 947 MW, 435 MW of small hydro projects, 417 MW of biomass and 53 MW of biogas. This includes both projects in commercial operation and in test phase.

According to the report, ERNC represents 12.7% of Chile’s generating capacity. In June, renewables had a share of around 10.8% of the nation’s electricity mix, by generation.
