Solar sector investors from China and Kenya have opened a technology transfer and training center near Nairobi to promote the assembly of solar lighting systems as demand for renewable energy resources in the East African country grows.
Executives at the newly established China-Kenya Solid State Lighting Technology Transfer Center say the complex will facilitate the establishment of a local assembly plant for solar products, according to a report by Chinas Xinhua News Agency.
Maina Maringa, a director at Kenyan firm Sunyale Africa, which is partnering on the project with a Beijing-based company, told Xinhua that the new center would boost the local industry and expose Kenyan technicians to the latest solar solutions."
Sunyale Africa launched last year in Kenya with both Chinese and Kenyan shareholders. According to Xinhua, the firm has become a leading player in Kenyas burgeoning solar sector, supplying affordable and high quality solar lighting systems to households, schools, hospitals and business premises.

Kenyas friendly policy and regulatory environment has welcomed Chinese investors, who appear eager to exploit the countrys solar potential.
Sunyale Africa imports solar products and assembles them in a factory outside Nairobi, according to company CEO Dang Song.
"There is a huge market for solar solutions in rural areas and urban slums, Song told Xinhua. The new center will help meet this demand through assembling of state-of-the-art solar lighting systems for households and institutions."
