Marshall Solar, a subsidiary of Florida-based energy supplier NextEra Energy Resources, in a partnership with Minnesota-based utility Xcel Energy has launched construction for a 62 MW solar plant, reports Associated Press.

The Marshall solar facility will be spread across the area of 144 hectares about seven kilometers east of the city of Marshall. According to Xcel Energy, this project will be the third largest solar installation in the state of Minnesota. It is expected to provide about 250 construction jobs.

Once completed, the 62 MW solar plant will interconnect to the existing Lyon County substation owned and operated by Northern States Power, Marshall Solar says on its official website. The installation is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 15,000 households.

The new large-scale solar installation was approved by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission at the end of March. Xcel Energy-Minnesota spokesman Chris Clark says that the project is one of several this year, which will help the utility reach its goal of generating a third of its energy from renewables by 2030.

The construction of the Marshall solar project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
