Construction crews yesterday broke ground on the largest solar project in New Mexico, PV developer First Solar said in a press release.

The 50 MW Macho Springs Solar Project is being built on 500 acres of public land near Deming in Luna County and will provide clean energy for residents in New Mexico and Texas under a 20-year PPA with El Paso Electric.

Some 300 construction jobs will be created with the building expected to be finished by May 2014 when three permanent operational and maintenance jobs will be created at the site.
