Database of US solar performance launched

The department's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has joined forces with the SunSpec Alliance to open the dataset, which will include statistics for residential and commercial photovoltaics.

Part of the SunShot Initiative, the Open Solar Performance and Reliability Clearinghouse (O-SPaRC) database will enable credit rating agencies and investors to estimate the risk of projects.

Another strand of the SunShot initiative is the Solar Access to Public Capital (SAPC) project, which is attempting to standardize solar contracts.

The NREL has also released a report into the performance of concentrated solar power (CSP) with thermal energy storage, studying its advantages over photovoltaics in California.

And a separate report by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory examines the impact of city level permits for solar installations in California and the soft cost savings to be made by simplifying the city permitting process.
