Detecting spots and contamination

It is a highly advanced, fully automatic, optical edge inspection system that significantly helps to reduce short-circuits and avoid non-reparable scrap after the firing process. The SOLARSCAN-Bevel is an inspection system that checks cell edges in-line to 100 percent with high spatial resolution for coating contaminations and compound spots. By sounding alarm at the detection of defects the system prevents the manufacture of scrap and offers the possibility of reacting immediately with protective or maintenance actions, like the exchange of aged meshes – one of the causes of such defects.

The company also says that such inspection ensures best-in-class quality for at least the next 400 cells. The system, therefore, contributes at an early phase to improved cell quality, process optimization, less reclamations and higher yield.
