Work on the new El Aguila 2 photovoltaic plant, set to be located 57 km east of the city of Arica in Chile’s northernmost Arica y Parinacota region, is scheduled to begin on September 2. The construction period is expected to last 12 months.

If completed, the plant will comprise 161,000 photovoltaic modules. It is still to be decided whether thin film or crystalline silicon technology will be used. Meanwhile electricity generated from the solar plant will be delivered to the SING grid via a new El Tambo substation, which is expected to be built in the project zone.

SEA has until May 8 to evaluate the DIA for El Aguila 2. If approval is received, an environmental qualification resolution (RCA) will be issued that will pave the way for the start of construction.
