Operations have begun on two large-scale solar PV projects in India that are part-owned by EDF Energies Nouvelles and Eren Renewable Energy.
Developed by Acme Solar in which both Eren Renewable Energy and EDF own a 25% stake the 150 MW of solar PV plants are located in the Indian states of Rajasthan and Odisha.
The Rajasthan project has been set up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) and comprises five individual solar plants located in the Thar desert with a combined capacity of 120 MW. The project was part-funded by the International Finance Corporation and the Asian Development Bank, and is a step towards the JNNSMs ultimate goal of installing 100 GW of solar PV capacity in India by 2020.
The Odisha plant is 30 MW in size and comprises more than 117,000 solar panels. Together, these two projects will deliver enough clean solar electricity to power 90,000 Indian households.

For EDF, this commissioning of this project is a milestone in the energy companys renewable efforts in India, said EDF Energies Nouvelles CEO Antoine Cahuzac. "With 180 MW solar energy capacity installed less than a year after our entry into the Indian market, the commissioning of the Rajasthan and Odisha plants consolidate our position in this high potential country and paves the way for other projects."
