The Toul-Rosières photovoltaic plant, located on a former military base, is equipped with around 1.4 million of First Solar’s thin film modules, which are expected to generate enough energy to meet the needs of 55,000 people.

Work originally started on the plant back in 2009. It has been commissioned gradually since this May. While it was developed and built by EDF EN France, EDF EN Services is taking care of operations and maintenance.

In October, EDF Energies Nouvelles completed work on its 56 MW photovoltaic plant in Burgundy, and in September, it finished its 60 MW Crucey plant.

"Located on abandoned land on the site of former NATO’s air base, the Toul facility represents an ambitious conversion project, which has led to the decontamination of the site and given it a second lease of life in the generation of green electricity," said Yvon André, CEO, EDF EN France.

The company declined to divulge any further details.
