Two Italian companies, Enerray and Enel Green Power, look to be stringing up quite the solar partnership in Brazil, as the two agree to work on another utility-scale PV project in the country. Not quite the same scale as the first, this second project will have a 104 MWp capacity once it is completed.

Enerray won the project from an Enel tender, with the location set for the municipality of Tabocas do Brejo Velho in the state of Bahia. The large 104 MWh project will be spread across 250 hectares and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2017.

It is the second utility-scale solar project that Enerray is building in the country after starting work on the huge 254 MWp Ituverava plant in December 2015. With the two projects combined, Enerray now has over 350 MWp of PV projects under construction in the country.

“We are positive that Brazil, [a] Country in which our Group has been operating with industrial activities for more than 50 years, represents a great opportunity, especially for its being a market with great perspectives in terms of medium-long growth,” commented Enerray CEO Michele Scandellari. “In this way, [the] main goals of Enerray are first of all positioning itself as leading operator in the renewable energy sector and then realizing the largest PV plants in Brazil. Winning this tender is a great result for us, confirming the strategic role that Brazil has for our Company.”

It is a good time for Enerray to position itself strongly in Brazil’s PV market, as it is a particularly exciting time for solar PV in the country, with a large solar energy tender on its way. The tender will take place in December, with 13.4 GW of potential solar projects already submitted.
