EPIA calls for EU industrial policy for solar

Share

EPIA announced the immediate goals for the solar industry in Europe at its AGM in Brussels yesterday (Thursday). It also called for more widespread integration of photovoltaics into the electricity grid and for a robust policy framework to drive forward the industry.

With most of the world's solar manufacturers turning their gaze away from Europe in response to the plunging demand prompted by retreating incentive programs, EPIA said the industry is more reliant than ever on support from politicians.

The industry body also called for the future market design of grids to remove bottlenecks to the development of solar technology.

Three appointments were made to the EPIA board to fill vacancies until next year's full board elections. Jodie Roussell, director of public affairs for Trina Solar AG, was appointed vice-president, with Christian Westermeier, a VP of Wacker Chemie AG, and Milan Nitzschke, VP of SolarWorld AG, joining the board.
