The last of the million-plus solar PV modules have been installed at the 250 MW Copper Mountain Solar 3 project in Nevada’s Boulder City by the Energy Alternatives Division of Cupertino Electric.

The project is one of the largest solar PV developments in the U.S., and is located across a 1,400 acre site. Sempra U.S. Gas & Power and Consolidated Edison Development co-own the plant, with Cupertino Electric and Amec Foster Wheeler partnering to co-develop the project, fitting more than one million fixed tilt, ground-mount PV modules.

"This is a significant project in the solar market," said Amec Foster Wheeler VP for construction, Tom Dodson. "We are delighted to have partnered with Cupertino Electric to leverage our global design, engineering and project management expertise to jointly deliver this prominent project to Sempra U.S. Gas & Power and Consolidated Edison Development."

Cupertino Electric previously worked with Sempra U.S. Gas & Power on the 92 MW Copper Mountain 2 Solar project, and have utilized the experience and expertise gained on that installation to ensure this latest project ran smoothly and to schedule.

The 250 MW Copper Mountain 3 Solar project will cement the state of Nevada’s place at the top table for U.S. solar PV development. The state currently ranks third nationwide for solar installations, after California and Arizona, with 789 MW of PV capacity connected.
