First Solar: Three transfer companies for employees planned

Share

The employment agency in Frankfurt Oder is not pinning its hopes on quickly finding jobs for all 800 to 1,000 employees who will become unemployed when the company closes its gates end of the year. This information was shared by CEO, Lutz Neumann to local media channel RBB (Radio Berlin-Brandenburg). The possibility of that happening is only when a new investor is found and the employment agency is not banking on that either.

Neumann explained that about three transfer companies are planned. Up to now, around 150 employees have voluntarily left the company. Talks are ongoing with the rest on transfer opportunities. According to Neumann's estimation, around 900 employees will take the offer. For a large percentage of the employees, it proceeds on towards the transition phase. 260 employees will continue working at the plant until end of February aiding in shutting down production.

At the end of May this year, the employment agency had set up a post at First Solar to provide advice to employees.

At the beginning of this year, First Solar announced that it would shut down its production in Germany. Up to 1,200 people were employed by the U.S. company. First Solar is still in talks with potential investors, according to spokesperson Brandon Mitchener. But quick solutions are not falling. Mitchener did not comment further.
