Located in the De Vernejoul industrial park in Porcelette, the 3,300 square meter factory, named SunPower Manufacturing De Vernejoul, will produce modules specifically for the residential and commercial rooftop markets.

With a capacity of 44 megawatts peak, around 150,000 modules are expected to be produced annually. SunPower adds that its new Maxeon solar cells will be used to create the modules, which are expected to have a median efficiency of 20 percent.

Approximately 80 workers will be employed, said the company, "with preference given to local residents." COO, Marty Neese continued, "This physical proximity to our French, Italian, German and Belgian customers will enhance our flexibility and shorten our delivery lead times, ramping up our ability to compete in today's highly competitive market."

No further details were released.
