Ky Hester, marketing manager for Alex Solar tells pv magazine the new 300 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic module manufacturing facility, to be located in Jinchang City’s Economic and Technological Development Zone, will produce both mono- and poly-crystalline modules.

Work is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year, and be completed by 2016. Equipment, meanwhile, will come from the company’s standard suppliers, including teamtechnik, Boost Solar, GSolar Power, Optech, Huitong, Lushan, Succeed, Yinxun and Darbond.

Alex Solar will also install one GW worth of photovoltaic power stations on the western slope of Jinchang City. While Hester said the number of stations is still being finalized, each one will be at least one MW in size.

As with the manufacturing facility, work on the plants is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2012 and be completed in 2016. In response to which other companies will be involved in their development, Hester said that some financial institutions and electrical utilities will participate, but nothing has yet been finalized.

Hester added that the first year permits have been secured, and the other four are in the process of being allocated. Furthermore, the power stations are expected to be grid-connected, despite the problems China faces in this area.

In terms of if Alex Solar will receive funding or other support from the Chinese government, Hester said that this is "still being developed".

Alex Solar currently manufactures 300 MW of wafers, and 600 MW each of crystalline silicon cells and modules. Overall, the company aims to increase this to 600 MW, 800 MW and one GW, respectively, in 2012.
