Just a week after launching its second sales office in Japan, South Korean group Hanwha took a further step into the Japanese market by partnering with the Tokyo-based trading firm Marubeni Corporation. Under the agreement, Hanwha Q Cell will deliver 82 MW of modules to a solar plant project.
According to the plan, the project will cover 105,000 square meters on a coastal industrial area in Qita city and generate about 87,000 MWh annually, or enough to supply 30,000 ordinary homes. When up and running, Kyushu Electric Power Company will buy all the electricity generated by the plant for more than 20 years.
Construction on the project began in November. Upon completion, data on plant operation, maintenance as well as other aspects will be collected for the risk evaluation on future mega-solar projects.

Hanwha and Marubeni are both active players in the country. Earlier this month, Hanwha highlighted the fact that Japan would continue to be a top-priority area of focus for the company. As a Japanese company, Marubeni does not merely plan to increase its business domestically in Japan but is also looking to further development in other regions, such as Indonesia and the U.S.
Marubeni is currently developing 531.5 MW of green power plants in seven countries.
