Hanwha to takeover Q.Cells?
29. June 2012 | Industry & Suppliers, Markets & Trends | By: Becky BeetzAccording to media reports, the Hanwha Group has said it is considering taking over Germany’s Q.Cells.
Reuters has reported that the South Korean giant is looking into the possibility of acquiring Q.Cells, which filed for insolvency on April 3. It added, however, that the spokesperson for Hanwha Corp. could neither confirm nor deny that "subsidiary Hanwha Chemical Corp was currently conducting due diligence on Q Cells."
In recent times, a number of failing German companies have been saved by Asian, or overseas investors. At the start of June, it was announced that Hanergy Holding Group Limited will acquire Q.Cells’ thin film subsidiary, Solibro.
Furthermore, Conergy AG is currently said to be negotiating with an unnamed Chinese investor. According to the company's CEO, the partnership will go beyond a pure supply relationship. And Meier Solar Solution, which filed for insolvency in September 2010, was later rescued by a Japanese investor, Berlin-based Solon was saved from insolvency by the UAE’s Microsol, and China’s Aikosolar has taken over the "essential" components of Scheuten Solar.
