India: Schott Solar signs 20 MW PV module contract

Schott Solar is to deliver 200,000 of its photovoltaic (PV) modules, worth 20 megawatts, (MW) to Premier Solar India. The first delivery took place today.

Under the contract, the German company will supply ten MW this year, with the remaining modules scheduled to be shipped in 2012. The financial amount was not disclosed.

According to Schott, the new contract represents the largest order for the company in Asia and for Schott Solar Thin Film GmbH.

The modules will reportedly be used by Premier Solar’s new EPC division, Premier Solar Power Tech, in a grid-connected ground mount system. The project size was not divulged, however, it was said the system will produce energy to serve over 40,000 households.

"This project gives us the opportunity to contribute to climate protection in India. At the same time, Premier Solar’s order will help us to continue expanding our visibility on the Indian market," commented Martin Heming, Schott CEO.

The signing of the contract was marked in Hyderabad, India, where Premier Solar’s headquarters is located. The Government Minister of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh for Major Industries, Sugar, Commerce and Export Promotion, Smt. J Geetha Reddy, Martin Heming, Schott CEO and Robert Kuba, Schott Solar Thin Film MD were all present.
