The renewable energy arm of India’s Enpee Group, RenewSys India Pvt. Ltd (RIPL), has confirmed this week that it has ordered 100 MW of manufacturing equipment from Switzerland’s Meyer Burger as it looks to ramp its module production capacity to 280 MW by the end of this year.

The Indian firm revealed that it has placed an order for a matrix cell assembly system and JT Series module lamination tool from Meyer Burger, thus boosting its production capacity by 100 MW.

RenewSys added that it will order a second line from Meyer Burger before year’s end.

The automated module line currently on its way to RenewSys’s Hyderabad fab is equipped to handle 3, 4, and 5 busbar cells, and the company is confident it will be up and running in the third quarter of this year.

In stepping up its domestic manufacturing capability, RenewSys hopes to meet "rapidly developing demand from its OEM customers within and outside India", a statement read, while also bolstering the nation’s domestic production capacity – something that has been a source of conflict in recent months following the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) ruling that India’s domestic content regulations violate global trade agreements.

Once RIPL has taken delivery of the Meyer Burger line, its cell capacity at the Hyderabad fab will rise to 130 MW. There are also plans afoot to increase RIPL’s EVA encapsulant and backsheet production capabilities at the firm’s other facility, located in Bengaluru.
