Inman Solar keeps Georgia on its mind

Atlanta?based Inman Solar has broken ground in Polk County, Georgia, on the first of a slew of solar projects the company is installing in the state this year.

The first four 1 MW solar farms to be located in Marion and Polk Counties are part of utility Georgia Power’s newly created Advanced Solar Initiative and are among the first of a total 45 MW that Georgia Power will add to its portfolio of small and mid?sized distributed generation in 2013.

In July, the state's Public Service Commission forced Georgia Power to include an additional 525 MW of solar generation in its planning strategy.

Georgia Power's new initiative establishes a cost?competitive solar price point that is not expected to put additional upward pressure on Georgia's utility rates. Inman Solar said the utility's plan provides the local solar industry "the flexibility to meet the price point with market?based solutions that do not rely on state incentives."

"The Georgia Power Advanced Solar Initiative provides a great benefit to Georgia's overall economy and has helped us build a nationally competitive solar company that puts Georgians to work and generates economically responsible clean energy and tax revenues for the state," said Inman Solar President Dan Fossitt.

The company added that the solar farms it was developing for Georgia Power would "create economic investment in rural communities that are searching for new business opportunities to help drive economic recovery and growth."

In addition to its projects in Georgia, Inman Solar's portfolio includes solar installations in Massachusetts, Tennessee, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Florida and Mississippi.
