Intersolar Awards celebrate innovation, European projects

For the sixth year running the Intersolar Awards were presented to the best innovations in the field of phototoltaics and solar thermal technology as well as in the new category of solar projects in Europe.

In the category of photovoltaics, three companies swayed the jury, winning the glass trophies of recognition. LG Electronics Deutschland received the award for their Mono X Neon modules. The product impressed with the fact that the module's production had 10 to 20% material savings with its n-type cells and bifacial cells.

Schletter also took the prize with their Smart PV Charge that optimizes self-consumption by more than 80%. The company aims to promote carbon dioxide neutral mobility with its innovation.

SMA scored with their Sunny Boy Smart Energy, which boasts a 2 kWh combined inverter and battery. SMA believes that small storage systems are more meaningful at the moment and this product enables an economically meaningful increase of self- consumption.

The new category solar projects in Europe saw German companies Belectric, Conergy and Galaxy Energy take the top prizes. Belectric impressed with their 128 MWp PV plant in Templin, Germany. The site, which was developed on a former military site, took four months to complete under a tight schedule. The plant has a 24/7 grid stabilization function with dynamic reactive power control.

Conergy's small but impressive 8.64 kW project atop the Barcelona seaside restaurant in Lasal del Varador was graced with the award for its business model.

Galaxy Energy also won the award in this category with their 350 kWp building integrated system on their company premises. The system integrates ice storage and a thermal heat pump.
