And with the Neckarsulm-based company also present at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Alamo I project in San Antonio, Texas and opening a new office in Tokyo, company executives have been clocking up the air miles.

KACO is exploring whether to build a photovoltaic inverter manufacturing plant at AEC's base in Riyadh under the recently signed agreement or whether existing facilities in the Saudi capital could be used.

"The talks are still at a very early stage," Kaco head of corporate communications Andreas Schlumberger told pv magazine. "The next meeting is due in May and we are hopeful that our products would be available in Saudi Arabia this year."

The agreement envisages KACO offering customer support and a maintenance center from AEC's base with both companies likely to split the profits from solar inverter sales across the Middle East and north Africa region.

"AEC wants to broaden its activities into renewable energies and of course for us it opens doors in that regional market," added Schlumberger.

In the U.S., representatives of KACO new energy were present at the groundbreaking of Alamo I, the first 41 MW phase of a final 400 MW San Antonio scheme which will be Texas' largest photovoltaic development.

KACO is supplying the scheme with integrated power stations, each of which contains two of its Powador XP550-HV TL outdoor inverters, a medium voltage transformer and circuit breakers.

By the end of the year the Alamo I project, being developed with OCI Solar Power, will be supplying power to San Antonio utility CPS Energy under a 25-year PPA and the overall scheme is expected to be operating in 2016.

In the Far East, KACO opened its new office in the Toshima ward of Tokyo along with local partner Green Tec, announcing that its inverter supply target under the partnership has doubled to 100 MW.

KACO will provide planning, commissioning and servicing as well as training on joint projects with full system suppliers Green Tec.
