Italy's Solarexpo 2016 cancelled due to market decline

"I wouldn't use the word ‘cancelled' because, in our opinion, it doesn't explain what's happening,” Giorgia Piantanida, a spokesperson for the event, told pv magazine. “We deferred the 2016 edition, but we will plan new editions of Solarexpo as soon as we have the chance to discuss it together with the low-carbon energy market players.”

Piantanida added, “It's important for us to keep representing the sector and its new needs — as we have been doing since 1999 — even in a frequently changing normative framework, like the Italian one.”

According to organizers, the main reason for the postponement of Solarexpo 2016 was the decline of the PV market in Italy over the last year. Furthermore, the Italian government is currently discussing new changes affecting the solar industry.

“In the context of changing legislation, asking companies to invest in exhibition booths might not be the best idea,” Piantanida said. “It seems reasonable to wait until the market is rising again.”

More than 10,000 professional operators and representatives of specialized companies from 56 different countries attended Solarexpo 2015 in Milan.

Speaking to pv magazine ahead of last year's Solarexpo, Luca Zingale, the exhibition’s founder and scientific director, expressed optimism for the future of the industry and explained why despite the current difficulties PV was still a good investment in Italy.
