JinkoSolar opens module testing lab

China-based JinkoSolar has opened a "cutting edge" photovoltaic module testing laboratory in China’s Jiangxi. The manufacturer aims to conduct test programs independently.

JinkoSolar, which had to close its module manufacturing facility in Haining last September following a fluoride leak, says the facility is equipped to carry out over 16 different kinds of tests, including basic pressure, impact, hot spot, pre-decay and UV aging tests.

The facility has been awarded the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Witness Testing Data Program (WTDP) Certificate, meaning that both JinkoSolar and other third parties can conduct tests there "under the supervision of UL".

However, the Chinese module manufacturer has bigger plans. In a statement released, it added, "In two to three years, JinkoSolar aims to reach a higher level of strategic partnership with UL under its Client Test Data Program (CTDP). Under the CTDP, JinkoSolar will be authorized by UL to conduct test programs independently."

CEO Kangping Chen went on to say that in addition to helping the company expand its footprint in the U.S. solar market, the testing facility will also help JinkoSolar to "accelerate its R&D process and reduce lead time of testing and qualification so that we can bring the latest solar technology to our customers as fast as possible … UL certification is the most important certification in the United States. We are committed to expanding our footprint in the U.S. market for the long haul."

In an interview with pv magazine in December, Arturo Herrero, chief marketing officer discussed JinkoSolar’s progress throughout 2011. He also talked frankly about the Haining situation and added his thoughts to the U.S.-China trade dispute.
