The installation, which is situated in Cerritos, around 20 miles from Los Angeles, followed an earlier installation in Lincoln, just outside Sacramento. The two homes use the Energizr-100 Smart Inverter from JLM Energy. Approval for the Lincoln installation was granted on 30 October last year with the process reportedly taking around 30 days. The Cerrito installation was approved on 31 December. Reportedly, minor adjustments were requested in one instance in the firmware delay switching between the grid and Energizr.

According to JLM Energy, the granting of these approvals has ‘great ramifications’ for the electricity market in California. A spokesperson for the company, said, “The utility companies recognize the critical importance of microgrids and individual power contributors to replacing aging power supply and offsetting growing demand. California's Governor has initiatives and incentives in place to support his ambitious goal of 50% renewable energy by 2030. This includes rebates that support up to 60% of renewable energy installation costs.”

According to a statement from the company, JLM Energy also has further plans for Energizr roll-outs in Hawaii, further states of the US, Canada, and Europe. This follows the first Energizr installation in Princeville on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

The installation of the California systems has occurred under the Self-Generation Incentive Program, which aims to provide ‘incentives to support existing, new, and emerging distributed energy resources’. The methods by which this is achieved come through rebates for qualifying systems installed by costumers. The scheme’s incentives are administrated through Pacific Gas & Electric Company, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas Company, and the California Center for Sustainable Energy.
