Kaco and OCI Solar announce partnership04. December 2012 | Markets & Trends, Industry & Suppliers | By: Shamsiah Ali-Oettinger
Kaco new energy and OCI Solar Power have finalized a partnership to develop a 400 MW solar project in San Antonio, Texas. This project will power about 70,000 households.
CPS Energy, the utility company for Texas awarded OCI Solar Power the construction rights to the projects. OCI Solar Power decided on Kaco's XP series German inverters for the project, which will bring Kaco sales of about US$500 million throughout the next 10 years.
Like other consortium partners Nexolon and Ercam Trackers, Kaco will also set up its own manufacturing plant in San Antonio creating more than 70 new jobs. About 800-plus jobs are expected to be created in San Antonio as part of the 400 MW project.
The first 50 MW of power will be fed into the San Antonio grid by late 2013. The total will be increased to 400 MW by 2016. By this time, about a tenth of CPS Energy's consumers will be supplied with solar power.
This project will place Texas in the ranks of the top five solar power producing states in the U.S. In 2016, CPS Energy expects to have achieved its goal of supplying 1,500 MW of clean energy output a few years earlier than its self-mandated target of 2020.
"We are pleased to have found the ideal partner in KACO new energy," said Anthony Dorazio, president, OCI Solar Power. "We place a great deal of value on approaching all projects in a uniform, environmentally-responsible manner and tailored to the needs of the community. Manufacturing solar inverters from KACO new energy on-site will also create secure long-term jobs in San Antonio."
