Japan-based solar manufacturer Kyocera Corporation announced today that it had landed an JPY 8.5 billion ($89 million, 67 million ) contract to supply and construct 30 MW of solar facilities for one of the largest solar projects being implemented by JAMC Solar Energy, a company run by the National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Association (Zen-Noh) and Mitsubishi Corporation.
Under the contract, signed by Kyocera and JAMC Solalr Energy Company, roughly 124,000 Kyocera 242W solar modules will be delivered and installed by Kyocera at approximately 80 of the Zen-Noh group's agricultural facilities in the country.
Once operational, the installations will generate an estimated 30,000 MWh a year to meet the power needs of almost 8,300 households and mitigate some 10,800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Regional utility power companies will buy the generated power under Japan's feed-in tariff program.
The 30 MW project is the initial phase of a 200 MW solar power project, which is planned for farms and Zen-Noh's facilities in Japan. As part of the 30 MW project, Kyocera Solar Corporation will not only supply and install modules, but also be involved in engineering and maintenance.
In April, Kyocera announced its financial results for the fiscal year, which revealed a significant increase in the companys annual sales. Although the increase is partly attributed to the booming Japanese PV market, Kyocera has continued to expand its operations worldwide. Last month, the company provided 25 MW in modules for a 127 MW PV installation in the U.S. state of Arizona.
