One of the largest solar firms in the U.K., Lightsource Renewable Energy, has added three third-party solar projects to its operations and maintenance (O&M) portfolio, which now stands at more than 1.1 GW nationwide.
In securing the O&M rights for three solar farms developed by U.S.-based solar company sPower, Lightsource has expanded its O&M footprint right across the British Isles. The three solar farms are all located in west Wales and together amount to 28.45 MW of PV capacity.
Individually, the three solar farms are 6.25 MW, 14.7 MW and 7.5 MW in size, and Lightsource has confirmed that it will work alongside sPowers asset management and O&M teams to ensure preventative and corrective maintenance of the solar farms is carried out in a timely manner.
As the U.K. solar landscape evolves from one shaped by fast-paced growth to a more quality conscious, post-boom sector, O&M is going to become an increasingly important and profitable portion of the market, Lightsource believes, making it a standalone business in its own right, and one with a +25-year horizon.
"We are delivering performance guarantees for far longer than ever before and are creating the necessary competencies, infrastructure and supply chain to ensure that those guarantees can be delivered," said Lightsource operations director Mark Turner. "There are more megawatts out there that require maintaining than are constructed each year, and this trend will continue into the future."
Across both the U.K.s ground-mount and rooftop solar sectors, Lightsource currently delivers O&M services to more than 1,100 MW of PV capacity nationwide, and boasts that its maintenance team is never more than one hour from site.
