Having got off to a positive start, the visitor numbers dwindled at the event, which took place for the seventh time this week. While it is believed the tradeshow is important for the domestic market, many are unsure if they will return next year.
With a packed tradeshow floor, and a shining Shanghai sun outside, Asia Solar was brimming with promise on the first day (March 21). In addition to higher numbers, the quality of visitors was said to supersede those of Solarcon, which took place concurrently. But, by the second day, there was a noticeable decline in the number of visitors, leading many exhibitors to question if they would be back in 2013. For others, however, while the event was small, it was worthwhile, particularly for the Chinese market. Even they admitted though that SNEC, scheduled to take place in May, is most definitely the leading solar industry event in China.
Speaking to pv magazine, Zhou Zhou from TW Solar said that Asia Solar was a lot worse than last year, due to the challenging market conditions. As such, she was unsure if the company will attend in 2013. Meanwhile, the spokespeople at TBEA Silicon said they were putting their hope in SNEC, despite having received orders for their silicon during the event. "It is still small here," said one. Canadian Solar added that there were a lot of people, but that there were no buyers or potential customers. "It doesn't compare with SNEC," stated the spokesperson.
Conversely, Samil Power's David Zhong said that Asia Solar is a very important event for the company, particularly in terms of potential projects and for meeting wholesalers from South East Asia. "Sure, we'll be back next year," he commented. Eoplly New Energy Technology Company was also happy with this year's Asia Solar, with lots of interest seen on the first day. Ling Qi Kong from Hanergy additionally believes the event is worthwhile, and stated that lots of clients, particularly EPC contractors and banks, were present, meaning there were many opportunities available to talk business. Giga Solar is another company, which sees Asia Solar as an important chance to showcase its products and services, both to the Chinese and international market.
