MTN, South African multinational mobile telecommunications company, launched its new promotional package featuring World Panel’s SunStream – a portable solar charging device.

According to the announcement by Hennie Botha, World Panel’s Managing Director for South Africa, the promotional package is now available at MTN stores in Mthatha, and SunStream is soon expected to roll out across South Africa.

Colorado-based company World Panel introduced its SunStream device at the end of last year. The portable, bright colored charger allows users to stream electricity from the sun directly into their mobile phones.

“The SunStream was developed with exactly this customer in mind: someone who views his mobile device as a lifeline but lacks the power to keep it charged,” Hennie Botha said in the announcement.

According to World Panel, its SunStream technology bypasses the need for chipsets or PC boards, which are known for breakage on typical solar charging devices. SunStream can charge most feature phones at or near the same speed as a wall plug. In addition, the device is impact resistant, waterproof and can perform even while submerged in water.
