New York governor Andrew Cuomo has announced an extra $30 million in funding for large scale solar projects in the Hudson Valley and New York City.
The governor's NY-Sun solar initiative has made the funding available for solar and biogas projects generating more than 200 kW.
The funding was announced yesterday and the window for applications is short, with a deadline of December 30 for applications to be lodged.
The $30 million NY-Sun Competitive Photovoltaic Program funding can be used to finance up to half the costs of a project with a maximum $3 million per project and $6 million per applicant apart from projects in designated ‘strategic locations' where the installation of such schemes will benefit the electric distribution system.
The scheme is being administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
The Competitive PV Program already has 92 MW worth of solar projects under contract and the NY-Sun initiative, of which the Competitive PV Program is a part, also operates a rolling, $4.8 million-per-month scheme to finance residential projects up to 25 kW in size and non-residential systems up to 200 kW.
