Ontario: Northland signs supply contract for 130 MW PV pipeline
17. November 2011 | Applications & Installations, Industry & Suppliers | By: Becky StuartNorthland Power Inc. has signed a supply module contract with MEMC Singapore Pte. Ltd. They will be used in Northland’s 130 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic pipeline, in Ontario.
The company is investing around CAD$600 million in ground-mounted solar projects in the Canadian province.
A spokesperson for SunEdison, solar subsidiary of MEMC, told pv magazine that the 130 MW will comprise 13 projects each worth 10 MW. While no construction partners have yet been identified, the projects will be executed throughout 2012 and 2013.
Northland adds that it expects to create 700 new engineering and construction jobs. Meanwhile, the photovoltaic modules will be manufactured in Newmarket, Ontario. Four hundred workers are said to be currently employed at the site.
Earlier this year, MEMC began manufacturing photovoltaic modules in Ontario for SunEdison, in order to help the company meet the province’s 60 percent domestic content requirements.
