Located in Japan’s Tomakomai City, Hokkaido, the 45.6 MWdc Sharp Tomatoh no Mori Solar Power Station went into operation at the start of the New Year.

Orix and Sharp have said they will operate the power station under the company, Tomakomai Solar Energy LLC. Enough energy is expected to be generated to supply around 14,100 households.

Overall, Orix began construction on seven solar PV plants across Japan in 2015. Four plants totaling 25 MW are scheduled for completion this year in Yamaguchi Prefecture, while a 52.5 MW plant should come online in 2017 in Fukushima. The remaining two – 23 MW and 54.6 MW in the Nara and Niigata Prefectures, respectively – are set to be operational in 2017 and 2018.

The aim of the Tokyo-based company, according to its plans in 2014, is to bring 800 MW of solar PV projects online in Japan by 2018. At the time, half of the pipeline were already said to be under development or in operation.
