Germany's Phoenix Solar AG is joining forces with Millennium Energy Industries (MEI) to develop solar photovoltaic projects in Jordan.
Based in the Jordanian capital Amman, MEI mainly offers large scale solar heating solutions but the company said it would now leverage its local presence and technical expertise to rapidly develop the solar PV solutions market in the country with Phoenix Solar's Oman-based subsidiary, Phoenix Solar LLC, with which it has signed a comprehensive agreement for the Jordanian market.
Phoenix Solar boasts a strong track record of completed projects in the region, including a 5.3 MW solar power plant in Riyadh, Saudi-Arabia, as well as a 1 MW plant in Ma'an, Jordan.
According to the agreement, which follows a previous cooperation deal between the companies from 2007 to 2010, both partners will jointly file tender applications for PV projects and work together in realizing them.
The companies said Phoenix Solar's competence and experience in the field of building PV power plants complemented MEI's knowhow and capacities, which have also included PV project development and combinations of solar thermal and PV systems.
Phoenix Solar and MEI added that the new alliance was intended to strengthen their respective market positions in Jordan.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) recently announced a $25 million loan for the construction of a 20 MW PV plant in southern Jordan.
