This accord now opens the way for Prosolia to undertake PPA negotiations with national electricity company Société National d'Éléctricité du Sénégal (Senelec), said the company in a statement released.
Overall, it is expected that the photovoltaic project will be completed and grid connected in four months, with construction scheduled to begin next June. The total investment is estimated at XOF15.6 billion (23.78 million), and will be secured by Prosolia.
The 13 MW is set to be split across three separate projects, all of which will be installed in Senegals north western region of Louga. The chosen sites Baralé, Ndiare Wakhy and Coki will be kitted out with 62,400 photovoltaic panels on fixed structures installed on a total area of 27 hectares. Meanwhile, the PPAs with Senelec are expected to last for 20 years.
In 2010, juwi installed a photovoltaic power plant in a Senegalese health centre. At the time, the comany said that most villages in Senegal do not have access to general electricity. To help amend this, it was planning to install solar island systems in 50 villages across the country with Germany's "Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit" GTZ.
