In-house steel wire, used for slicing wafers, is in trial production. With an expected capacity of 8400 metric tons by the end of 2011, the company believes the wire can be produced at "significantly less" cost than its current suppliers.

A new generation of G6 casting furnaces has also been produced, with an annual output of eight megawatts (MW). This is an increase of two MW from the furnaces currently used. ReneSola plans to upgrade some existing furnaces, increase their output to seven MW. At the earliest, the upgrades and new G6 furnaces are expected to be in place by the end of the year.

In announcing the production changes, ReneSola's CEO Xianshou Li said, "I am proud to say that we have already mastered our steel wire production techniques and expect our wafer processing cost to decrease once full production of our in-house steel wire begins. Our wafer production will be further supported by our new G6 casting furnaces".
