Renewables in UK to rival thermal power by 2025
19. September 2012 | Markets & Trends, Global PV markets | By: Jonathan GiffordA new report, released today, has concluded that the cumulative installed capacity of renewable energy plants will reach 79 GW by 2025, only 2 GW less than the predicted installed capacity of traditional thermal plants.

In a sign that the potential of renewable energy sources in the UK may be being underestimated by some sections of business and government, a new report, by business analysts GlobalData, found that renewables will likely rival traditional thermal power sources by 2025.
The report found that renewable energy is the fastest growing power source in the country, and will "grow impressively" from the 11 GW installed in 2011.
Wind is expected to be the biggest source of renewable energy growth, from 6 GW in 2011, to 53 GW in 2025. Photovoltaics is also set to grow quickly, from just over 1 GW in 2011 to 13.3 GW by the quarter-century point.
The report is called: Solar PV in the UK, Market Outlook to 2025 – Capacity, Generation, Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), Investment Trends, Regulations and Company Profiles. It was assembled from GlobalData proprietary databases, primary and secondary research and in-house analysis.
